Why do liberals hate us so much?
Late night TV hosts skewer Republicans seven times more often than Democrats. Obama supporters openly wear tee shirts referring to Sarah Palin as a c*nt. John Murtha calls western Pennsylvanians as racist. The list goes on.
Why do they hate us so?
One word: Fear. Fear of genuine, real people. Fear of everyday people who appreciate the simple things in life. Fear of anyone who doesn’t need the Obamessiah. Fear of the number of people who embrace leaders like John McCain and Sarah Palin precisely because they are genuine and real.
The culture war in America has been simmering for years, and this election is bringing it to a head. It would be easy to simply characterize it as left vs. right, but it’s really more a case of “self-reliance, personal responsibility, take charge of your destiny, and do the right thing” vs. “every victim needs a government program, healthcare is a right, and it’s a wrong to have a society where people struggle financially.”
The last time I read the Declaration of independence, it said, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…” Emphasis on “pursuit”. It did not say happiness was guaranteed, only that our country should have the framework in place where it was possible. Liberals think that the government should provide the happiness, while the rest of us think it’s okay to work for it.
And they hate us for that.
I would consider myself liberal and I don’t hate you. I also don’t think the government owes every adult happiness, as you put it. I do, however, think that every child deserves health care, love, education and the basic life essentials. Now, if the lower socioeconomic class of folks continues to raise children in poverty with no health care, absent parents and the lowest standard of education, the cycle only continues. Those children will grow up to be just like their parents. This is where I believe the government can play the most influential role in the “individual”.
The Conservative Party’s official website states the following:
“…we uphold the principle that the individual is sovereign; where social conduct involves personal choices”
Now let me just say that their principles are commendable. Seriously. What a great idea to think that every single American can be counted on to make socially moral personal choices. But the truth is that many Americans simply can’t, won’t and don’t know how to make socially moral personal choices. And therefore, the offspring of those people are doomed to this same reality. And so begins the cycle.
If we could intervene and help the children of impoverished families; children of parents who only know a life of crime, drugs, laziness–If we more prosperous people could help every child in America, wouldn’t we be helping our future generations free themselves from the shackles of their social class? We simply can’t trust every American to make the right choices. We can’t cross our fingers and hope every American will uphold the principles of the Conservative Party.
Another quote from the official Conservative Party website:
“…Each adult citizen is responsible for the health, education and welfare of himself or herself and their family.”
Again, each adult citizen cannot be trusted to provide health, education and welfare to his/her family. Period. And in my “liberal” view, I think children deserve better.
The other difference between you and me: Separation of Church and State.
I don’t hate you for it. But I would defend my position based on the fact that this is part of the First Amendment.
In my very humble opinion, I think the other major difference between the Conservative right and the Progressive left is the fear of change. I grew up in a “blue” state, in a “blue” community and I was taught to embrace change because change is inevitable. Everything changes. But I understand and respect your view to uphold traditional values, too. However I have my doubts about being able to do that in a reality where everything changes.
I’m not trying to stir an argument. Just showing you that there are plenty of us who aren’t angry and full of rage over our differences.
With respect,
Stacy
Hahahahaha. Wow, that is some great humor. I seriously cannot stop laughing. Being neither liberal nor conservative, I find it humorous that you think all conservatives are “real, genuine people”. And people “who appreciate the simple things in life”. More like “simple people who can’t think for themselves”. Why is it that the higher a state’s cumulative IQ, and the ones with the most educated people lean Democrat. Whereas the states with the least education, and the lowest incomes lean Republican? I think that is why they hate you. Because you need people like Rush Limbaugh and Fox news to tell you how to think and who to hate.
I think you nailed it with your comments about ‘pursuit’. The framework is here for us. I worked my a** off and sacrificed to get a college degree, no handouts, and now support and educate a disabled daughter. Life isn’t easy and we all have challenges…it is a matter of choosing to work our a**es off and achieve what we can. Sure, there must be an umbrella for the poorest and disabled. A helping hand is the right thing and we should all contribute to help them. And public education is available to all for no cost. But I firmly believe that the government does now owe us free medical nor financial support…only to those whose bodies or minds will not serve them. Didn’t someone once say something like.. ‘ask not what your country can do for you… ‘ ?
And…before someone jumps in and criticizes me for my lack of compassion… sorry, but I’ve worked too dang hard while raising a cancer stricken child for the last 20 years. I could have quit my job and gone on welfare at any time under our circumstances. But the thought disgusted me. God gave me a brain and two working arms and legs. It is my job to use them and pursue happiness and success with them.
I find that hilarious that you descibe McCain and Palin as “genuine and real” leaders. I watched both of these “leaders” repeatedly say things about Obama’s campaign that were completely untrue. I won’t accuse them of lying but being misinformed is no excuse when you are running in the presidential election. I do not want the leaders of my country to be liars or too lazy to check their facts.
I would also like to point out that I do not believe that anyone should be given anything for free. I just think it is unfair that the richest 10% in America own 80% of all the wealth.
Did you even know that there are 1 billion people in the world that survive on less than $1 a day? This is not because they choose to do so, it is because they are not given a chance to better themselves and the conditions they live in.
In America there are 35 million people that live in poverty and 45 million people without healthcare. Do you think these numbers are so high because those people don’t work and just want to reap government benefits?
Response:
Well, BFH, please take your socialist, spread the wealth around philosophy and move somewhere else. I dispute your “poverty” statistics on principle. Most of the 45 million people in America living in so-called “poverty” have a roof over their heads, at least one square meal every day, and heat, air conditioning, and television – a far cry from the kind of poverty found in third world countries. As for healthcare, I agree something needs to be done, but the last thing I want is a government bureaucrat running my healthcare, given the mess our government is already in.
Remember, America is the land of opportunity, not the land of guaranteed success. As a taxpayer, I am appalled that 34 percent of all tax returns filed have no tax liability whatsoever, meaning that if they had any withholdings they got it all refunded, or otherwise owed nothing. Thirty-four percent!! Leaving the other sixty-six percent of us to foot the bill for everything else!
Cheers,
CL
Be charitable to Liberals. They somewhat resemble Moths with respect to life spans. Just remember that a Liberal remains a “Liberal” only until he’s been mugged. Then, other political venues become more appealing.
The left really has a problem with genuine (people who know who they are & want they want) AND this great idea of “..pursuit of happiness”. As far as IQ and party affiliation I doubt there are any good stats defining this; it’s important not to confuse peudo-intellectual BS (I have more degrees & can beat you in Scrabble) with decisiveness and decisions based on moral as well as intellectual honesty (see democratic, “the buck stops here” Harry Truman). More of a libertarian or irritable independent. Those of you who think this country is the the bain of the world, need to travel more; cause if you hate (& self loathe), just leave. One reason we have an immigration problem is that everybody is still trying to get in this “imperfect” country.
