Obama: Less Change, But More Vindictive
Hmmmm. “Amid concerns that many of his euphoric supporters are harboring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve,” senior Obama campaign advisers are planning the big letdown (Click for original story from the Times of London). That’s right, folks, all the soaring rhetoric was, ummm, ahhh… well, so much vapid blather.
Sheesh, I wonder how they got all filled up with “hope and change” in the first place? Was it really Barack making all those speeches? Do you mean that the Obamessiah will not actually be able to give everyone making $42,000 or less a mansion and a yacht? Say it ain’t so, Joe! This confirms a proven Democratic campaign strategy: Promise the handout crowd a middle class income for doing a menial labor job, create another mismanaged government program or two, and then raise taxes while doing nothing to reduce spending anywhere else. Except the military, of course.
Some of the media has seen through the smoke, however. They report on the huge gap between the promises and realities, question the man of no resume who would be king, and generally wonder why a presidential candidate pals around with unrepentent terrorists. For this, they get banned from the Obama press plane. Yep, The Washington Times and two other big city dailies that endorsed John McCain have been voted off the island – cut off at the knees. It’s not like they’re latecomers, either: All of them have covered his campaign from the beginning.
So by Mr. Obama’s actions we are getting a glimpse of the presidency that might come: A president who stifles dissent like a wet blanket, has a vindictiveness that would make Nixon blush in his grave, and makes more promises than a televangelist praying to God he won’t be recognized after being caught with a five dollar whore. Just what America needs.
Lobster prices are way down…
so perhaps it’s time to brew up one of my favorite (yet most expensive) recipes: Lobster Corn Chowder! The secret is in the broth made from lobster shells after the meat is cooked. Yummy!
I’ll post the recipe later tonight!
NBC – The “News For Barack Channel”
No, the media isn’t biased against conservatives. Really. They promise. It’s just that they’re biased FOR Barack Obama, but they can’t admit it.
If you missed it, Joe Biden all but stuck his foot in his mouth, bit it off and swallowed it on Monday when he made some remarks about Barack’s preparedness to be president. But that’s not the real story.
The real story is how, on Monday night, when Andrea Mitchell of NBC reported on Biden’s remarks, she failed to air the relevant portion that has the attention of the public and the McCain campaign. It’s sorta like a news crew filming aliens landing on the White House lawn, but only showing pictures of people running around screaming – you know something happened, but the details aren’t clear.
And Obama supporters call Fox News biased? Sheesh!
What Our Troops Have Figured Out That The Rest Of America Hasn’t
America’s troops have a much clearer picture about who they would like to see as their new Commander-In-Chief, and it’s not Barack Obama. By a 3 to 1 margin, a poll taken by the Military Times shows that our citizens in uniform prefer John McCain.
Is this just another ho-hum poll, or is there more to it than meets the eye? Well, for openers, these are the very folks who place their lives on the line daily in Iraq. They are currently operating under the so-called “failed Iraq policy” of President Bush, yet they support the candidate who refuses to set an arbitrary timetable for departure from Iraq. Maybe they know something most Obama supporters don’t: We’re making excellent progress there, and leaving prematurely would be disastrous.
Perhaps there is another dimension to their preference: If we lose Iraq now, we’ll just be back later and at a far greater cost in American lives and dollars. Even Joe Biden admits that the next president will be tested immediately by our enemies. John McCain understands that simple fact and is prepared to meet that challenge. Barack Obama and his supporters don’t get it and don’t want to.
Adventure Truck Episode #1: How do you like your Burger King cooked?
We own a truck. A big one. Really big – a spiffy new 2008 Ford F350 Super Duty four wheel drive crew cab long bed pickup with a twin-turbo Diesel [insert Tim Allen grunts here]. As it happens, I was also an emergency medical technician amd a former member of a very busy all-volunteer rescue squad, and I have to tell you, once this stuff gets into your blood, it never leaves. So for years I’ve carried a first aid kit. And road flares. And a strobe light bar like you’d find on a tow truck. And I’ve used them all many times.
A couple of nights ago we were out eating a late dinner near Potomac Mills mall, and as we headed home we encountered a large cloud of smoke. We kept driving, and as we went past the Burger King we could see it was coming from the cooking vent. It looked more intense than cooking smoke, and there was a lot of it, so we looked for a place to turn around to head back. About a tenth of a mile up the mall circle we found one, and as we turned around, the smoke had become a lot more intense, so I flipped on the light bar and gunned the engine.
As we rolled into the BK parking lot, mall security was already there and people were coming out of the building. I told my other half to call it in to 911 as I jumped out, and I headed for the door. The interior of the restaurant had no smoke, but it was really intense coming out of the vent. It was clear they had a fire in the exhaust hood vent flue.
I started herding people away from the building and telling them to move all the cars out of the parking lot to make room for the fire equipment. I had to stop the manager from going back inside to get her car keys, and then I went back to the truck to see about progress with 911.
She rolled down the window and told me that the dispatcher didn’t believe her! “I told them we were at the Burger King outside Potomac Mills and that there was a fire,” she said, “but the dispatcher replied that they hadn’t got any other calls! They said it was probably cooking smoke. I said that I knew from cooking smoke, and this was HEAVY smoke, and that mall security was here and they were evacuating the building!”
At this point, I looked back at the structure, and flames were just starting to come out of the vent. I told her, “Call ‘em back and tell them we have visible flames!”
I headed toward the mall security guard and told her we needed to check if we could shut off the power to the building. Together we headed around back and found the main power feed, but there was no visible shut off, so I headed back to the truck to again check progress of the fire units. As I walked towards the truck she yelled that 911 said it was dispatched, and at about the same time I could hear a distant siren, so my next thought was to keep the path to the building clear through the crowd and cars.
I grabbed the canister of road flares from behind my drivers seat and headed towards the driveway entrance shooing people out of the parking lot as I went. I set up a couple of flares across the entrance to keep any new customers out, and waited. And waited. I could hear some sirens, but they were a ways off.
After what seemed like an eternity, the first pumper turned the corner at Gideon and Opitz and swung into the adjacent Silver Diner parking lot. I picked up the flares and stepped out of the way, waving them through. They screamed past and came to a halt at the front entrance. I repeated the process a few more times for a tower, another pumper, and a couple of battalion chiefs. More units arrived and set up on the mall access road, and a second tower was sending firefighters up to the roof. It was quite a scene.
Once it looked like things were under control I told the cop standing nearby (who did nothing but stand there the whole time) that it looked like things were, well, under control. And I left.
As we drove away, I patted the dashboard and said softly, “Good truck.” At that moment, the truck, which I’d always referred to as simply, “truck,” got a new name: Adventure Truck.

Why do liberals hate us so much?
Late night TV hosts skewer Republicans seven times more often than Democrats. Obama supporters openly wear tee shirts referring to Sarah Palin as a c*nt. John Murtha calls western Pennsylvanians as racist. The list goes on.
Why do they hate us so?
One word: Fear. Fear of genuine, real people. Fear of everyday people who appreciate the simple things in life. Fear of anyone who doesn’t need the Obamessiah. Fear of the number of people who embrace leaders like John McCain and Sarah Palin precisely because they are genuine and real.
The culture war in America has been simmering for years, and this election is bringing it to a head. It would be easy to simply characterize it as left vs. right, but it’s really more a case of “self-reliance, personal responsibility, take charge of your destiny, and do the right thing” vs. “every victim needs a government program, healthcare is a right, and it’s a wrong to have a society where people struggle financially.”
The last time I read the Declaration of independence, it said, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…” Emphasis on “pursuit”. It did not say happiness was guaranteed, only that our country should have the framework in place where it was possible. Liberals think that the government should provide the happiness, while the rest of us think it’s okay to work for it.
And they hate us for that.
Joe the Plumber Would Be Pleased, But Is It Enough?
Tonite John McCain directly challenged Barack Obama on a number of critical issues, even at times causing Barack to sputter. Joe the Plumber would have been proud of John for directly pointing out that Barack favors redistributing the wealth, and exposed Barack’s tax plan as costing jobs and being bad for the economy. McCain even made a big point about Obama campaigning against George Bush, not him. Also notable was McCain asking for full disclosure regarding ACORN and William Ayers, calling into question whether Barack is being completely truthful about those relationships. The party base should definitely be pleased.
The real question is whether or not McCain reached enough undecided voters. Specifically, as I watch the post debate interviews with some of these undecided folks, I hear them articulating that Palin, though wildly popular with the party base, is viewed as a polarizing liability (although they are from Leesburg, so who DOESN’T know a liberal who dislikes Palin?), and there is a definite dislike for the negative campaign tone. Although John did an excellent job on exposing Barack’s tax and spend economic policies for what they are, I can only hope it sinks in.
A couple of post-debate notes: The NBC truth squad exposed Barack’s lie about 100% of McCains ads being negative, while the Truth Squad only told the half-truth (boo NBC!) about the cost of the tax proposals, not talking into account that McCain is far more likely to cut federal spending. Specifically, the Truth Squad reports that McCain’s tax proposals would boost the deficit to $1 trillion, while Barack’s proposal would only boost the deficit to $750 billion.
The debate did a good job of giving voters a final look at the two candidates head-to-head and I’ll be closely watching for signs of a turnaround for McCain in the next few days.
What John McCain Needs To Do In Tonight’s Debate
There’s no denying that McCain is behind in the polls in a number of battleground states. Though he’s hit Obama hard on some character issues, focus of the race has clearly shifted to the economy, a subject upon which McCain is not nearly as strong on as foreign policy and character. According to many pundits (with which I agree), the debate tonight is really the last chance for John McCain to regain the momentum in this race.
Here are the points he needs to make:
- The Obama tax plan will ruin the economy because:
- Already 34 percent of tax returns filed result in no actual tax collected, so even fewer will pay under his plan
- Obama’s “tax the rich” plan targets subchapter S corporations and will cause layoffs
- Obama admits to socialist stance of redistributing the wealth
- Obama lacks experience and judgement:
- He associates with an unrepentent domestic terrorist
- His long-time church pastor and confidant has gone on numerous anti-American rants
- His lackluster Senate career does not demonstrate leadership
- Barack has no cohesive foreign policy plan other than to:
- Lend credibility to Iran by meeting with their leader
- Pull out of Iraq on an artificial timetable not grounded in progress towards stability
- Invade Pakistan to go after Osama Bin Laden
- Give $50 billion to the UN to “end world poverty”, despite the fact the trillions of dollars already given haven’t helped
I’ll be watching the debates closely tonight. I hope we all do.
Poor George Soros!
Well, George has been feeling the pinch from the financial meltdown. Today he said, “This is the crisis of my lifetime. I haven’t seen anything like it and I won’t see anything like it again.”
George, as you may know, is the Hungarian billionaire financier who has given upwards of 50 million dollars (yes, 50 Million!) to every big left-wing political cause you can name, including MoveOn.org, Million Mom March, the Tides Foundation, America Coming Together, and Center for American Progress (Note how these groups all have such innocuous sounding names). He also had a stated goal of removing George W. Bush from the White House in the 2004 election.
I guess if the financial meltdown cloud has one silver lining, it might be less influence from this rich meddler with his anti-freedom, socialist agenda.
